Day 1: From Corporate to Courtship
I gave myself one year off from the corporate world to try to "make it" as a romance writer. If I monetize it, it's not a mid-life crisis.
My name isn’t really Andie, and I’m not really having a mid-life crisis, no matter what people who know my real name might tell you. I am, however, a 20-year veteran of corporate America who recently decided to take a year off that wild ride to write romance books. Now there’s a clock over my head — money is in fact necessary to survival — and a whole lot of unknown in front of me.
What You’ll Find Here
Anxiety, honesty, and some far-too-strongly-held opinions. I won’t sugarcoat my foibles, but I’ll at least try to make them amusing. You’ll probably also hear about topics that fascinate me, including:
My honest account of trying to “make it” in publishing
Aging gracelessly as an “Elder Millennial”
How to suck at social media marketing (see previous)
Whether or not AI is going to be A Problem(TM)
Why “The Discourse” is always absurd
Maybe SOME writing craft stuff — but others are better at that, really
Running news — because it’s my other big hobby and I can’t help myself
What I Write Off Substack (AKA My Author Pitch)
Contemporary rom-coms featuring relatable women who are stronger than they think. As an avid but not particularly talented endurance athlete, my niche is what I call “participatory” sports romance. Nobody’s going to the Olympics, but everybody’s getting their HEA.
You Did What Now?
Yeah, leaving a good job at a time when it’s really hard to find good jobs — especially in tech, my area of expertise — is a questionable decision. There’s a reason there’s a timer on this game, and it's a privilege to even get to try. Maybe I should un-crop my husband from that photo, because I owe him deeply for both emotional support and health insurance.
What’s Your Posting Schedule?
Look for weekly posts, every Thursday! This is all free to start, but who knows. Maybe I’ll be wildly successful and come up with tiers in future.

Especially if you know my real name and have asked if my book is published yet. I promise that everyone I have ever met and several thousand people I haven’t will know when that happens. But you better believe I’ll announce it here.
I know, I know. SO MANY EMAILS. Your subscription means a lot!
Bonne chance Andie!
love it!!
